WELCOME
Fly Safe. Fly Quiet. Fly SAF.
Welcome to the Truckee Tahoe Airport, where sustainability and community are at the forefront of everything we do.
our commitment
We are a proud founding member and strong supporter of the Climate Transformation Alliance, a regional public-private partnership committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2045. Together with local governments, organizations, and businesses, we believe that aviation can be a force for good, and we’re committed to leading the way towards a more sustainable future for everyone.
key sustainability areas
Sustainable aviation fuel
Starting in 2024, all aviation jet fuel sold by Truckee Tahoe Airport District will be SAF from AvFuel and Neste, offering a 23% reduction in carbon emissions per gallon compared to traditional Jet A fuel over the entire life cycle.
Operational efficiency
From using electric aircraft Ground Power Units (eGPU’s), installing energy-efficient airfield lighting and to offering electric vehicle charging stations to our guests, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and promoting sustainable practices.
Land & Water
We aim to preserve the natural beauty of the region and maintain open space surrounding the airport as a habitat for local wildlife and for guests to enjoy scenic views.
sustainability highlights
In 2023, Truckee Tahoe Airport’s sustainability target was that of the industry: net zero emissions by 2050. To work towards this goal, we made substantial progress on active initiatives and kicked off multiple new initiatives.
Transition to 100% blended SAF
Completed in July 2023, reducing Scope 3 emissions by 31% for the year.
Fleet Electrification
Replaced four internal combustion engines (ICE) vehicles with four electric vehicles.
Tracking emissions
Partnered with NZero to track Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions and quantify the carbon footprint.
Full-service fueling
In Q4 2023, the airport implemented full-service fueling for 100LL aircraft, reducing emissions by an estimated 98% compared to self-service fueling.
real impact on the environment
In line with the broader goals of the aviation industry and the values of the North Lake Tahoe and Truckee community, our sustainability activities lead to tangible benefits to its diverse stakeholders. This includes being one of the first general aviation airports in the area to offer sustainable aviation fuel to our clients.
eGPUs
Truckee Tahoe Airport purchased two electric Ground Power Units (eGPU) in 2024 to reduce emissions from aircraft engines.
Data-informed targets
We will explore more ambitious targets in 2024, transitioning from the industry-adopted target of Net Zero by 2050.
Biodiversity & Conservation
We manage 2,000+ acres of diverse land, implementing various activities to maintain the landscape, preserve wildlife and habitat, and protect special status species while providing recreational opportunities.

testimonials
As pilots flying out of Truckee, we’re aware of our responsibility towards the environment. It’s not our intention to harm the planet; if sustainable aviation fuel can help us reduce emissions and minimize our carbon footprint, then we’re all in.
Chris Barbera
CEO and Director of Operations, Mountain Lion Aviation
The customer base made Truckee an ideal place to implement sustainable fuel, with the average customer caring deeply about the environment and willing to pay for that by reducing impacts through SAF. The district’s goal to ultimately reach 100% SAF is unheard of for general aviation airports.
Hardy Bullock
Supervisor for Nevada County’s fifth district
SAF is the most effective way to reduce a flight’s carbon footprint. It’s one more way to reach a business’ or airport’s sustainability goals and earn good will amongst stakeholders and communities.
Marci Ammerman
VP Marketing, AvFuel Corporation
When we ask our clients to spend more on sustainable aviation fuel, we’re asking for their buy-in to our community’s values. They already come here because of the natural beauty of the North Lake Tahoe area; we’re asking them to buy into the values that help sustain that natural beauty.
